Amherst Girls Softball
'Major' White Sox rally to defeat Diamondbacks

The Amherst Girls Softball "Major" White Sox prevailed over the Diamondbacks in what turned out to be a shootout.

The White Sox were down 14-12 going into the bottom of the fourth inning and rallied to score six runs. The teams finished the final innings scoreless and the White Sox ended up winning 18-14.

The come-from-behind victory was highlighted by each member of the White Sox team contributing a hit.

Michelle Haumesser, Claire Haumesser, and Abbey Staebell led the way as each player collected three hits. Michelle Haumesser had a double in each of the first two innings. She finished the game with another single and scored three times. Staebell went 3 for 3 including a single, double and triple but only crossed the plate once.

Claire Haumesser also went 3 for 3 with three singles and was able to cross the plate three times.

Nicole Dukarm, Ashley Bogan, Joslin Downey, and Lara Macdonald each contributed to the White Sox victory with two singles each. Downey was able to score three White Sox runs and Ashley Bogan crossed the plate twice.

Dukarm and Macdonald were able to make it around the bases to score one run each.

Tori Mendiola, Clare Costello, Julie Brady, Bobbi Walls, and Ashley Cultrara each contributed a single. Brady scored one of the six runs scored in the fourth inning rally. Costello made it home in the first and second innings.

White Sox 12, Phillies 4

The White Sox beat the Phillies but the game was tied going into the fourth inning.

Nicole Dukarm was able to score the go-ahead run after leading off the inning with a single. The White Sox put the game out of reach by scoring six runs in the fifth.

The scoring started quick in the first inning as Joslin Downey hit a home run with Tori Mendiola on base. Downey finished the game 3 for 3 after adding a double in the six-run fifth inning and a single in the sixth inning.

Claire Haumesser launched two doubles and was able to score both times.

Audrey Yu and Abbey Staebell each contributed two singles.

Clare Costello and Lara Macdonald each contributed a single. Costello also contributed two runs. Ashley Cultrara and Ashley Bogan each got on base and scored in the six-run fifth.

Michelle Haumesser struck out three of the four batters she faced in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game. She added a triple and scored the White Sox's final run of the sixth.

Rangers 21, Phillies 17

"AAA" players Haven Mugleston of the Grasshoppers and Jenna Stogsdill of the Durham Bulls, helped the Rangers to victory against the Phillies, who also used two call-up players from the "AAA" Bulls, Danielle and Shannon Stockman.

The Rangers mound saw many changes with Mary Kate Comer, Paige Burkard, Emma O'Connor, and Danielle Gaulin showing their fine pitching skills. Solid hitting by Emma O'Connor brought in five base runners.

A hard-hit triple by Julia Collins brought in three more and an exciting home run hit by Kelly Farrell brought in two.

The Phillies rallied back in the fifth inning, scoring eight runs for their team.

Rangers 8, Devil Rays 2

Under the lights the Rangers came alive with solid hitting and flawless fielding to give them a win over the Devil Rays.

Emily Ludwig had three hits and drove in two runs. Jett Chestnut rounded all four bases on a hit to center field. Courtney Kramer, Julia Collins, and Emma O'Connor each earned RBIs with solid doubles.

Alyssa Presutti stood strong at the mound and had two hits and an RBI for the Devil Rays.

Rangers 16, Orioles 2

Hits were had by all of the Rangers as they defeated the Orioles.

Julia Collins hit a home run, bringing in Emma O'Connor, who also earned four RBIs for the team with three base hits.

Mary Kate Comer, Emily Ludwig, Jett Chestnut and Kelly Farrell each had solid hits to drive in runs for the victory. Holly Kaiser and Lydia Wishman gave their team solid base running.

Jenna Stogsdill of the "AAA" Durham Bulls, started the game for the Rangers playing against her sister with her dad as the opposing coach. She was a true player with solid base running and a good eye for pitches. Sabrina Lipowski kept her cool at the mound for the Orioles and pitched a great game.

' AAA'

Mudcats 13, Red Wings 12

The Red Wings' rally ended with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning as they fell to the Mudcats, 13-12.

The Red Wings were led by the pitching of Marissa Schneggenburger. Strong at the plate for the Red Wings were Emily Nosky, Clare Losito, Amanda Gesel, and Briana Shaner. Michelle Ford. Kate Liscavage, Emma Hubert, and Cassidy McGee were active with their mitts in the field.

The Mudcats were led by starting pitcher Laura Matthews, who came on in the bottom of the fourth to save the game. Katy Arthur, Haley Ernst, Allison Fenter, Alexa Jadoch, Anna Kistner, Samantha Klinkman, and Michelle Miranda had their groove on at the plate.

The Mudcats' defense backed up Matthews at the end with Angel Criden, Samantha Fenter, and Gabi Smith all making key stops to end the game.

Mudcats 13, Rattlers 8

The Mudcats won their third straight game and improved to 6-3 with a strong all-around team play, beating the Rattlers on a scorching Saturday afternoon.

The red-hot Mudcats were led by the fielding and strong defense of Samantha Fenter, Angel Criden, and Allison Fenter. The Mudcats' continued their winning streak with their third game of 13 runs. Samantha Klinkman, Anna Kistner, Jenn Miranda, and Michelle Miranda had their way with Rattlers pitching. Laura Matthews and Gabi Smith continued to impress as a one-two pitching combination for the Mudcats.

The Rattlers were led by Kim Mazurowski (3 for 3). Katherine Simonian played well with two hits and was great in the field. Carly Scime pitched well in relief in the third inning.

Mudcats 9, Bulls 8

The Mudcats held off the Bulls for their fourth win in a row, improving their record to 7-3.

The Mudcats were led by the steady bat of Haley Ernst along with the superb pitching and fielding of Laura Matthews and Gabi Smith. Katie Arthur, Angel Criden, Allison Fenter, Alexa Jadoch, Anna Kistner, Michelle Miranda, and Jessie Rohl all played well at the plate. Sam Fenter, Samantha Klinkman, and Jenn Miranda backed up the Mudcats' pitching with their play in the field.

The Bulls were led by the pitching of Danielle Stockman and Jessica Wheeler.

The Bulls made the game close with nice hits by Kayla Connolly, Sarah Reynolds, Samantha Stanford, and Jenny Wess.

'Minor'

Rivercats tie Storm

The River Cats and The Storm played an outstanding game that ended in a tie.

On fire at bat for the Rivercats were Emma Donaldson and Joli Lederman. An incredible double play was made by Lauren McGrath as well as great fielding by Cecilia Rapp, Grace Couche and Marah O'Connor.

The Storm had great fielding by Ashliegh Lymburner, Leah Marsack and Nicole Stuber and awesome batting by Kristin Sickau, Jenny Pierce, and Joelle Giambra.

' AA'

Storm 19, Defenders 13

The Storm opened things up with solid hits by Joelle Giambra, Stacey Brown and Jenny Pierce. That was followed by some great hits by the Defenders but the fielding talents of the Storms' Nicole Stuber, Leah Marsack, and Kristin Sickau helped keep the Defenders' scoring down.

The talents of Janessa Preston, Kady Ziminski, Christine Aguglia, and Emily Quartley rounded out the Storm's lineup to help defeat the Defenders, who also played an awesome game.

Knights, Bees

The Knights played with true team spirit led by Cheryl Moehrle, Reena Gerakios, and Kaylyn Wertz.

They had great plays in the field as well as behind the plate from Cosette Nerogic, Olivia Rinaldo, and Alia Zeid.

Heather Lee Krahel made two outs at third base to keep up with the Bees' Sara Bennett, who hit up the middle, taking out coach Sarac.

Emma Murphy, Ellen Divita, and Lindsay Acker had hard hits as well.

The Bees' defense stung the Knights with a double play at first by Allison Delano, a diving play to third by Anne Marren, and the last out of the game by Katelyn Kardaman, to shut down the Knights.

Knights, Muck Dogs

The Knights' defense just couldn't be stopped with Jennie Kingsley as catcher and relentless hustle from Abby Nerogic, Kaylyn Wertz, and Nicole Pierino in the field.

Heather Lee Krahel dominated the bottom of the third with three consecutive outs at second base.

The fourth inning brought another amazing play as Krahel caught a pop fly and threw to Mary Crumlish at third for a double play to end the game.

The Muck Dogs played a tremendous game as well with Quinn DeCicco making two outs with perfect throws to first.

Amanda Stockman made a great snag on a line drive to the pitcher. She helped lead her team with several outs at first base.

Abby DeCicco made two solid hits to the outfield to keep the Knights on their toes.
