Sports briefs Washington College senior Jon Kenney, an Amherst native, was awarded All-American status at the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America Brunch on May 27 at the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Md. Kenney, an Amherst High School graduate, was named to the third team. Kenney, a second-team All-America selection last year, was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team for the third consecutive year in 2007. He scooped up a team-best 69 ground balls and also tallied three goals and one assist this season. Buffalo State College will be holding a boys basketball camp for boys entering grades 4-12 from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from July 9-13 at Buffalo State Sports Arena. The camp is designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball in a fun, supportive and encouraging environment. Emphasis will be placed on individual skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship. Flotilla 33, Buffalo is presenting America's Boating Course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at St. Patrick's Church Hall, 1395 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga. This general boating course meets New York State education requirements for jet-ski operation and qualifies youth, ages 10 to 18 to legally operate a conventional vessel alone on New York State waters. Anyone who successfully completes the course is eligible to receive a discount on their boat insurance. For more information, call 681-5436. Hilbert College is seeking an individual to fulfill a graduate assistant position within the athletic department beginning August 1, 2007 and ending May 31, 2008. The qualified person would work more specifically in the sports information department while also assisting with academic mentoring, game management, orientation, fundraising activities, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. The graduate assistant must be willing to work anywhere from 35 to 40 flexible hours per week, including weekends and especially on Mondays. The position comes with a stipend and reimbursement toward graduate tuition as well as hands-on experience. Tonawanda High School will host a wrestling camp with Hofstra University coach Tom Shifflet and staff July 18-20. Shifflet, a Sweet Home High School graduate, led the Hofstra Pride to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships in March. Williamsville South senior Zachary Markley will continue his academic and athletic career at Heidelberg College. Heidelberg is a liberal arts college of approximately 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students in Tiffin, Ohio. A Williamsville native, Markley was a four-year letter winner for South's golf team, helping guide the Billies to the 2002 ECIC golf championship. He served as a team captain in his senior season and placed eighth at the conference championships. As a junior, he ranked fifth in ECIC in scoring average with a 38 per nine holes. Heidelberg is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference and finished in the top ten in five of its seven outings last year. Markley is the son of Jeffrey and Laura Markley. Medaille College men's basketball coach Mike McDonald will host two weeks of basketball camps for boys' ages 6 to 14 at Medaille College, 18 Agassiz Circle, Buffalo. The sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25 to 29 and July 30 to August 3. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available each day. The camp also includes games, contests, and instruction. All campers will receive a "Maverick Pack", which includes a reversible jersey, T-shirt, basketball, and a gym sack. The cost of the camp is $200. Family and team discounts are available.
