Youth soccer The Amherst Bayern Cyclone U12 boys soccer team had one of their best outings of the year against a very good Lancaster team at Como Park on June 4, winning 3-1. After each team had their chances early on, both settled down and played solid team soccer. Lancaster was able to carry the play to the Cyclones and was able to score the game's first goal midway threw the first half. A nice crossing pass eluded the defense and was tapped past goalkeeper Nick Aja. After the goal, Amherst was able to put on some of their own offensive pressure and converted on a corner kick. Humza Rana deflected the corner kick across the goal to teammate Tim Gesel, who was able to tie the game at 1-1. The first half ended tied at 1-1 but not without some scoring chances thanks to great plays by Elliott Krieder and Charlie Loweecey. The second half started with Lancaster putting pressure on the Cyclones' defense, led by Brock Prizel, but the Cyclones were able to have a few breakout plays. Patrick Mitchell was able to convert one of the plays into the second goal of the game for Amherst. Moving down the left side, he was able to beat the Lancaster keeper. For the remainder of the game, Nick Athans, Greg Vanderhorst, and Ryan Hillery helped keep the play in their opponents' end of the field. Lancaster had their chances to tie the score, but Aja made some great stops till Bradley Schober ended the scoring late in the second half. Coaches Schober and Loweecey hope Jonathon Kuensting and his teammates are able to build off this team win and carry momentum into the next game. |
