Panel to hold discussion

The Erie County Senior Services Protective Services for Adults will present a panel discussion titled World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: Ageism in our Culture and Community from 8:45 a.m. to noon Friday, June 15 at the Amherst Senior Center, 370 John James Audubon Pkwy. The program begins at 9:15 a.m.

There are 800 to 1,500 cases of elder abuse reported in Erie County every year. Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, sexual, psychological or emotional, financial exploitation or neglect.

The panel discussion will include representatives from numerous disciplines including elder law attorneys, domestic violence and protective services agencies, gerontologist nurse practitioners, victim advocacy, social work and law enforcement.

The keynote speaker will be Deborah Waldrop from the University at Buffalo School of Social Work at 10 a.m.
