Great Race, great event
St. Greg's to hold 12th annual run

At the end of a long work week, runners will be starting their weekend with a long run.

St. Gregory the Great will hold its 12th annual Great Race at 7 p.m. Friday, June 22 at the church, 200 St. Gregory Court, at Maple Road. The race is a 5K or participants can choose the 1-mile walk around Bassett Park.

Pre-registration is $20. The cost is $22 the day of the race. Those choosing the Fun Walk pay $12 in advance or $14 the day of the event.

Applications are available at www.stgregsgreatrace.com and on the church's Web site at www.stgregs.org. Information is also available at the Race Telephone Hotline at 565-2660.

Registrations will be taken from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21 and from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 22 at the church's ministry center.

Entrants receive a T-shirt and admission to the post-race party being held after an awards ceremony until 11 p.m. at the church. Non-participants, 21 and older, can attend the party for $7.

"Switch" will be performing for three hours. Also included is food and drink. Face painting, rock wall and moonwalk will be offered for the youths.

More than 1,000 runners and walkers are expected, with more than 3,000 at the post-race party.

The Great Race kicks off "Amherst's Triple Crown" with the Loughran's Race on July 9 and the Moonlight Race on Aug. 15.
