Don't leave the town with stumps

Recent news articles regarding the devastation of the trees in last October's storm is of major concern to Western New Yorkers.

Residents should be aware that the federal funds available to towns now does not include money for stump removal or replanting.

It only takes 10 minutes to fell a lovely old tree, but 15-20 years to grow a new one.

It is aesthetically depressing to live on a stump-lined street and even more uninviting to possible homebuyers.

Town officials and residents should be wise and thoughtful in making decisions now that could have a negative effect on our already fragile real estate future.
