St. Benedict's softball defeats OLBS, 7-3 On a hot, 85-degree afternoon last week, St. Benedict's softball defeated Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 7-3, securing a spot in the playoffs. Through the heat, pitcher Kristy Luce struck out 17 batters. At the plate, she walked and scored a run. First baseman Mary O'Rourke had a single and a sacrifice hit that brought in Luce for an RBI. Shannon Okonczak walked, hit a single, and a fly ball to left field. Second baseman Claire Wincott had two walks and fielded three balls for outs at first base. Left fielder Nina Anders had two hits, an RBI and scored a run. Jamie Schuh and Carrie Deck were both on base on walks. DeRosiers made it to base twice on walks. All three girls did a great job in the outfield as they backed up the infield, preventing the other team from taking extra bases. Gina Maisano had a hit, two walks, and scored two runs while McDuggan had a hit, a walk and an RBI. Jen Krajnick had a walk and scored a run and shortstop Kyra Sweeney had a walk, a hit, two RBIs and also scored a run. In the last inning with the bases loaded, a hard hit ball was deflected off Sweeney's glove. As Krajnick was running in from center field to back up second base, the deflected ball landed into her glove right before she stepped on the base to end the game. |
