East grad selected as scholar-athlete

Williamsville East High School graduate Emily Urbanczyk, a senior forward on the University of Rochester women's soccer team, was presented with the University's Female Scholar-Athlete Award by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

The award is presented to both a male and a female student-athlete for combined excellence in the academic areas as well as on the field of play.

Urbanczyk, a Williamsville native, was a four-year letter winner for the women's soccer team and was the team's leading scorer in three of those four years. She has earned All-University Athletic Association honors in each of the last two seasons. Urbanczyk earned Second Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region honors in 2005 and First Team NSCAA All-Region honors in 2006. She scored eight goals in the 2006 season. Each was a game-winning goal.

In the fall, she was named to the NSCAA/Adidas Scholar-Athlete Team. In the spring, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated on May 20 with a degree in political science.
