Mel Ott 'AAA' Red Sox win slugfest with Dodgers, remain perfect

In a back and forth slugfest played on June 2, the Mel Ott "AAA" Red Sox remained unbeaten with a come-from-behind 14-11 victory over the Dodgers.

The Dodgers were in position to deal the Red Sox their first loss of the season, taking an 11-9 lead into the fifth inning after a six-run bottom of the fourth.

The Red Sox scored two in the top of the fifth to tie the game and pushed three more runs across the plate in the sixth for the win.

The Dodgers, who played with three players called up from the "AA" level, were led by Brendan McGuire, who homered and added two singles. Justin Bystrak added a double and a triple.

The Red Sox hitting stars included David Lyskawa (3 for 3, scored three runs), Mitch Daddario (2 for 4, two runs), and Jeff Becker (2 for 2, two runs).

Red Sox 8, Mets 7

The Red Sox kept their perfect season going in dramatic fashion, pulling out an 8-7 win over the Mets in a hotly contested game on May 30.

The Red Sox built a 6-2 lead before seeing the Mets rally with five runs in the top of the fifth. The Red Sox answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Dominick Cavaretta's triple was the key hit as it tied the game. Cavaretta would later score what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Hitting stars for the Red Sox included Mitch Daddario (1 for 3, scored two runs) and Jonathan Simon (2 for 2, run scored).

Met David Christopher had two hits and scored a run.

Jeff Becker recorded a 1-2-3 top of the sixth to preserve the win for the 10-0 Red Sox. Becker also came up with the defensive play of the game, twisting around and leaping to grab a high chopper to third base in the third inning with the Mets having the go-ahead run at third base.

Cardinals 11, Blue Jays 5

The Cardinals won their fourth straight as Taylor Sutherland and Brock Prizel combined to limit the Blue Jays to five hits in an 11-5 win on Saturday.

The Blue Jays jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on RBI singles by Josh Logiudice and Kevin Torrillo but the Cardinals rallied for six runs in the third. Andrew White had a double and a single in the inning while Mc- Quaid Smythe, Prizel, and Trevor Wilson all chipped in with run-scoring singles.

The Blue Jays got within a run in the fourth when Steven Patterson hit a monster triple to the fence in right field that scored Loguidice. But that was all the runs the Cardinals would allow as Sutherland closed the door on the scoring. The Cardinals added four insurance runs in the fifth inning on hits by Evan Wysocki and Ryan Burns followed by White's third hit of the game.

Cody Orcutt had a triple and Jack Stelianou added a double for the Blue Jays while Noah DiPasquale scored a pair for the Cardinals.

'A' baseball Red Sox 5, Reds 1 Jacob Simmons, Luke Pappagallo, Abel Tefera, and Bam Ruggiero each had two hits for the Red Sox, who scored three runs in the sixth inning to break up a close game.

Joseph Torrillo, Andre Torrico, and Ruggiero provided strong pitching efforts to lead the Red Sox to their fourth straight victory.

'Minor' softball

Racers 14, Heat 10

It was an offensive battle as the two teams combined for 24 total runs.

The Racers struck first with runs by Brianna Spence and Alexa Archambault. Coming back with a run for the Heat was Marie Frascatore. Three more runs were scored for the Racers by Alana Zendano, Analiese Piccillo and Melanie Izard.

The Heat fought back as Victoria Rigler and Emily Dunne were among those who scored. The Racers sped across home plate with three more runs by Taylor Sinclair, Alyssa Orrico, and Genny Boucher.

Racers ace pitcher Archambault struck out three of four batters, blanking the Heat.

In the fourth inning, the Racers crossed the plate three more times with Piccillo, Izard and Archambault scoring again. In the bottom of the fourth, the Heat struck back with Rigler and Dunne scoring again, along with Danielle Rambuss.

In the top of fifth, the Racers kept moving with runs by Orrico, Boucher and Marisa Cieri. The Heat made it close with Jessica Strauss, Rigler, and Rambuss.

In the field for the Racers, Emma Burke was stellar at second. Katie Fortman and Sarah Raimondi were solid at catcher.

The Heat provided good fielding by Madison Badgley and Ashley Decker.

Bandits 9, Racers 8

The Racers struck first as Melanie Izard, Brianna Spence and Emma Burke scored in the first inning. The Bandits came back with three runs of their own to tie.

The Racers' Alyssa Orrico, Genny Boucher and Marisa Cieri came in to make the score 6-3 Racers. The Racers held the Bandits scoreless in the second and the Bandits followed suit in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, the Bandits scored three times to tie the game at 6-6.

After stopping the Racers with bases loaded, the Bandits scored three more runs to take a 9-6 lead.

The Racers played great defense in the top of the fifth and Alexa Archambault and Taylor Sinclair scored runs but it wasn't enough as the Bandits prevailed 9-8.

For the Racers, some great plays were made on defense by Taylor Sinclair backing up second base, catcher Alana Zendano, center fielder Analiese Piccillo, pitcher Katie Fortman, and second base Sarah Raimondi.
