CCA baseball records perfect game

A perfect game in baseball is hard to come by, especially in the midst of a less-than-perfect season. However, the 2-6 Christian Central Academy Crusaders did the near impossible on May 23 against the Nichols modified baseball team. Pitcher Mark Goszewski led the team to an 11-0 victory with seven strikeouts.

Goszewski pitched six complete innings from the mound to catchers Peter Kazmierczak and Jack Ranallo. His tough infield was comprised of Mitch Narbe, Nate Holmes, and Nate Jacobs. Goszewski's confidence in his team allowed him to continue pitching as he believed they would back him up. Austin Tom, Jon Whited, Andrew Lauto and Cameron Tom remained focused in the outfield while the infield continued to be unbeatable.

CCA played perfect defense. No hits got past them and no Nichols batter was able to step on base. However, this perfect team also made the bats come alive on offense. There was a total of ten hits during the game, including a triple and a single by Lauto and two hits by Holmes. Goszewski also contributed by adding in three singles.

Goszewski stepped onto the mound in the last inning with determination and finished off his perfect game by throwing strong. He faced three batters in the final inning, striking out two of them and allowing a fly ball to shallow centerfield which was caught by Tom. His teammates congratulated him as he had defied the odds to get a perfect game.

The CCA baseball program began in 2003 under head coach Tom Ranallo. It is seeking to develop varsity and junior varsity teams as there is growing interest among the athletes.
