North modified concludes season 12-2

The Williamsville North girls modified softball team's stellar spring season came to a close last week with a record of 12-2 in league play. The team avenged their only two losses by splitting games with district rivals Williamsville East and Williamsville South.

The Lady Spartans, comprised of seventh and eighth graders from Heim Middle School and Casey Middle School, dominated league and non-league play. North was aggressive at the plate all season, scoring a total of 269 runs.

Home run hitters were found in upperclassmen such as catcher Ashley Fillmore, first baseman Kirsten Berg, and second baseman Rachel Attea.

Halting people at the plate included the tough lineup of rotating pitchers Nikki Attea, Ashley Nelson, Lainey Materise, Alexa Santora and Caitlin Dwyer. Opponents were held to only 58 runs total all season. Assisting with putouts behind the plate were experienced catchers Alayna Wageman and Nina Sexton.

Tough outfield defense was played by Jessica Prater, Catherine Dutweiler and Stephi Verhage. The infield was rounded out by Erika Sercu and Stephanie Sercu. Jessica Wess, the consummate utility player, saw action in both the infield, outfield, and behind the plate.

Coach Hillary Nichols commends her team's hard work in the offseason through private lessons, practicing in the gym, or on various house and travel teams for their success.
