Sacred Heart to meet Holy Angels for MMA crown
by PATRICK J. NAGY Reporter

Sacred Heart is one win away from their third straight Monsignor Martin Association softball title after blanking Mount Mercy, 3-0, in a semifinal game on Monday, June 4.

The Sharks (12-1) will meet Holy Angels, who upset Immaculata, 5-2, for the MMA title at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 at Walden Pond in Lancaster. It is Sacred Heart's fourth consecutive appearance in the title game. The last time the Sharks lost in the MMA was the 2004 final.

Erica Comisso was dominant against Mount Mercy. She had a no-hitter until the seventh. She fired a one-hitter and struck out seven.

The Sharks scored two runs in the third on a Lindsay Macaluso double and an Alison Pyszczynski single. Macaluso had a base hit and RBI in the fifth.

Sacred Heart opened the playoffs with an 11-1, five-inning victory over Nardin on Thursday, May 31. The Sharks scored all 11 runs in the first inning. Comisso went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and threw a one-hitter and five strikeouts.

Sacred Heart closed out league play undefeated for the fourth straight year with a 14-2 rout of Nardin on Tuesday, May 29.

Katie Salisbury (three hits, scored three runs), Macaluso (three hits, double, three RBIs), and Pyszczynski (two-run triple) led the Sharks' offense. Comisso threw seven strikeouts.

"With only two seniors, Macaluso and Pyszczynski and losing the crew from last year, it was like starting all over," said Sharks coach Mike Injaychoch. "This was kind of more satisfying than any of the other years."

Pysczynski (.393, 15 RBIs, double, three triples, home run) was named league MVP. Comisso (.576 batting average hitting; 49 innings, 28 hits, 77 strikeouts, four earned runs pitching) and Macaluso (.531) were All-Catholic first team selections. Salisbury (.468) made the second team.
