Frederick J. Haller, 59, of Williamsville, a retired medical photographer for Roswell Park Cancer Institute, died Monday, May 21, 2007.
A lifelong Williamsville resident, Mr. Haller was a 1956 graduate of Williamsville High School. He also served in the U.S. military.
Mr. Haller managed the Amherst Camera Shop on Rock Street in the 1970s, conducting photography lessons and darkroom technique. He worked with several high school yearbook staffs, including Sweet Home and Williamsville School Districts.
After the Amherst Camera Shop owner died in 1979, Mr. Haller went to work as a medical photographer at Roswell Park from 1980 until a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease sent him into early retirement in 1992. Before working at Roswell Park, he was a technical lecturer for Nikon School of Photography in New York City. He also was a professional freelance photographer.
Mr. Haller was a popular magician, mentalist and stand-up comic, appearing during the 1970s and 1980s at the Forks Hotel in Cheektowaga and Thurston's Magic Bar in Buffalo under the stage name Frederick Lord North.
As a resident of the Elderwood Health Care Facility at Crestwood, he was featured with his photographic and artwork on WIVB-TV's "Wake Up" show. His photos and artwork were also featured at a Niagara Falls art galley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 68 Eagle St., Williamsville.
Mr. Haller donated his body to the University at Buffalo School of Medicine.
