' Buffalo/ Niagara to Baghdad' shows support to troops, veterans

The Buffalo/Niagara to Baghdad committee and Seneca Gaming Corp. will host "Buffalo/Niagara to Baghdad," a community effort to send well-wishes to troops serving abroad and support those who have served in the past.

The effort will culminate at 8 p.m. Friday, June 15 with an event inside Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel, 310 Fourth St., Niagara Falls, N.Y. It will feature the 51-piece Marine Corps Band, which also performed at this year's Super Bowl.

Once completed, a copy of the "Thank You for Serving" video will be sent to every U.S. military base, USO organization, U.S. ship at sea and U.S. veterans hospital in the world.

The proceeds raised through the "Buffalo/Niagara to Baghdad" effort will support the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 77; the Wounded Warrior Project; the Buffalo & Erie County Naval and Servicemen's Park; Buffalo Police Officer Patricia Parete, who was seriously wounded in the line of duty in December 2006; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the United Spinal Association.
