All comments are by our readers and are subject to editing. .To the parents of the kids who continue to tip over the port-o-potties and leave garbage at Briarhurst Park, shame on you. Respect for people and property begins at home. .Regarding Supervisor Mohan's recent statement suggesting taxing residents based on assessment to fund political campaigns: I feel is absolutely ridiculous. .Mayor Mary Lowther is in over her head. Garrison Park is a hazard. The Mill is deteriorating before our eyes. Tree stumps and weeds have been littering Main Street for years. Wire fencing is greeting visitors when they get to Glen Park. We need some changes in the village, and we need someone who can take care of the problems. It's a beautiful village, and it needs to remain that way. .Wouldn't it be nice to have the sign from Jimmy's Restaurant at the corner of Kensington and Harlem be put into the Amherst Museum? It's been a landmark since I was a child. I am now 70 years old, and I can remember going there as a 15-year-old. It would be nice to put in the Amherst Museum for all to see. It used to be a hangout for the young people in the 50s. .I don't really care about the squabbles among the town board, unions and supervisor any more. All I know is that someone had better get off their duffs and get something done. The town looks like heck - unkept diamonds, rights-of-way, streets piled with debris, dirty empty lots, vacant homes with grass two feet high. Where are my tax dollars going? Too many chiefs, not enough Indians? Amherst, have some pride. .The Memorial Day parade in Amherst was a totally disgraceful parade. We are to honor veterans, not town, village and state fathers. And no more fire trucks. .Did I catch the last town board meeting right? Did I hear Councilman O'Loughlin say the town supervisor works harder than Marines in Iraq? .I find it interesting that the Town of Amherst continuously sends me a license renewal form for my dog that has passed away. I've told them many times that this dog has passed away. What I find even more humorous is the rat problem that we've engaged in our neighborhood continues to be ongoing, including the bait trap that has been there for almost one year. I've asked that to be removed but it still sits there. .Regarding the letter from the Williamsville Parks Committee: no matter how you look at it, Mary Lowther held a questionable meeting. It was not announced in the village and it was not announced in The Bee. It was held behind locked doors. I hope the attorney general's office looks into this. .Amherst Supervisor Satish Mohan promised to do more with UB as part of his campaign. Well, he has delivered on that promise, but in a funny kind of way. We've apparently enticed UB into suing the Town of Amherst because of Mohan's lack of preparedness, unwillingness to do homework and shoot-from-the-hip planning strategies. So, although we are doing more with UB, it's actually litigation, and it is all the supervisor's undoing that has caused this situation to occur. Another Mohan failure. |
