St. Benedict's softball defeats Our Lady of Pompeii, St. John's of Alden

St. Benedict's softball team recently defeated Our Lady of Pompei and St. John of Alden.

St. Benedict's scored in each of the five innings they played to defeat Our Lady of Pompeii.

Gina Maisano hit a nice double, got an RBI, walked, and scored a run. Jennifer Krajnick hit a single, a fly ball to center field, and recorded an RBI. Maisano and Krajnick alternated at catcher and right center fielder.

Right fielders Shannon DeRosiers and Jamie Schuh were able to help their team while at bat. DeRosiers advanced runners on base into a scoring position and Schuh got an RBI for her efforts. McDuggan played left center field and while at bat, had two singles, an RBI, and also scored two runs. Second baseman Claire Wincott and left fielder Nina Anders were each on base twice and each scored a run. Anders made a spectacular catch on a fly ball in left field.

First baseman Mary O'Rourke was on base twice with a single and a walk, RBI, and scored a run. O'Rourke did an exceptional job at first base and also fielded a ball for an out.

Pitcher Kristy Luce struck out 12 batters, caught two fly balls, and fielded another ball for an out. At bat, Luce had two singles, walk, two RBIs, and scored a run. Shortstop Kyra Sweeney had two hits, a walk, RBI, and scored a run. Sweeney fielded several hard hit balls at short.

Third baseman Shannon Okonczak had a nice single and scored a run. Okonczak made a nice play on a hard hit ball and threw the batter out at first to end the game.

St. Benedict's 7, St. John of Alden 3 St. Benedict's girls softball team defeated St. John's of Alden last week.

Mary O'Rourke fielded three balls for outs while at first base and had a hit, three RBIs, and scored a run at the plate. Claire Wincott was on base twice and scored a run. Nina Anders hit a fly ball to first base and Shannon Okonczak hit a single to third base.

Jennifer Krajnick hit a single to right field, walked twice, and scored a run. Carrie Deck hit a fly ball to third base and Jamie Schuh hit a fly ball to short. Kyra Sweeney hit fly balls to right field and to short and also walked. Gina Maisano walked, along with Shannon DeRosiers, who also scored a run. Maggie Boyle also had a walk and an RBI.

Pitcher Kristy Luce struck out 18 batters. She hit a single, two doubles, had two RBIs and scored three runs.
