Sweet Home advances

Sweet Home, seeded ninth in the Section VI Class AA tournament, won at eighth-seed Niagara Falls, 1-0, in a prequarterfinal game held on Thursday, May 24.

Amanda Cannizzo and Carol Skoney combined for a five-hitter, striking out seven. Jillian Reeser (3 for 3) scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning.

Niagara Falls had runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh with one out and Sweet Home played great defense to hold them.

Cannizzo (3 for 4), Krista Prentice (1 for 3), Jessica Forti, and Skoney (1 for 2) all contributed offensively.

The outfield, which consisted of Skoney, Reeser, and Lauren Prentice, made stellar defensive catches to save Lady Wolverine runs.

Sweet Home played at top-seed Kenmore West in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 29 but the result was unavailable before The Bee went to press.
