Sports brief Alison Pyszczynski hit a three-run home run and Erica Comisso threw a one-hitter and 12 strikeouts in Sacred Heart's 10-0 win in five innings over Niagara Catholic on Tuesday, May 22. St. Christopher's defeated SS. Peter & Paul, 3-2, in a JV soccer game held on April 29. After a scoreless first half, the SSPP offense came alive in the second half, led by Alec Cowe, Cameron Sedia and Natalie Reesor, for two goals. St. Christopher's scored on a late goal for the win. Strong games were also played by Allison McKenna, Madalyn Mueller and Gabe Lopez. Anthony Podgorsak was tough in net. Amherst's girls outdoor track team beat Williamsville East, 104-37, on Tuesday, May 15. The Lady Tigers had three double winners - Sarah Lister (100 hurdles, 17.8; 400 hurdles, 110.8), Arielle Januszkiewicz (1500, 5:13; 3000, 11:56) and Allison Rogers (100, 12.4; 200, 25.7). Rogers also anchored the 4x100 relay first place time of 51.2, a new school record. Stephine Woods, Nasya Watson, and Ariella Korn also ran the event. Olivia May won the triple jump in 32-9.5. Amherst resident Mike Pizzuto, a member of Geneseo State College's men's lacrosse team, earned State University of New York Athletic Conference first team honors. Pizzuto was ranked third on the team in scoring with 24 goals and eight assists. |
