Sharon Wrzosek, teacher fought leukemia 13 years

Sharon K. Wrzosek, 46, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, after a 13-year fight with leukemia.

A Buffalo native, the former Sharon Komisarek was a graduate of Nardin Academy and earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Buffalo State College.

She taught at Riverside Academy, Buffalo School 79, St. Benedict's, St. Andrew's and St. Thomas Aquinas schools. For the past two years, Mrs. Wrzosek taught at Buffalo School 81 and was a delegate to the Buffalo Teachers Federation.

During her urgent quest for a bone marrow transplant, friends organized a far- reaching community drive that also educated many as to the value of such donations.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph; her parents, Bernard and Dorothy Komisarek; a son, Andrew J.; a daughter, Lauren E.; a sister, Barbara Trabold; and a brother, Daniel Komisarek.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, May 29 in Christ the King Church. Arrangements were made by the Amherst Chapel of the Amigone Funeral Home.
