Sister Jeanne Marie Schwartz, teacher, medical records clerk

Sister Jeanne Marie Schwartz, 98, a native of Sharon, Pa., died on Sunday, May 20, 2007, at St. Mary of the Angels in Williamsville.

The former Anna Schwartz entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Third Order Regular on July 24, 1932, and would have celebrated her 75th anniversary in religious life this fall.

She had a bachelor's degree in education from Mount St. Joseph Teachers College, now Medaille College. She also earned permanent certification for teaching, a library science certificate from Nazareth College in Rochester, and a nursing home administrator's license from Cornell University.

As a teacher for many years and also a teaching principal for 17 years, Sister Jeanne Marie served in 11 parishes, including St. Peter and Paul's in Hamburg, St. John's in West Valley, St. Mary's in Swormville and St. James, St. Bernard's, St. Nicholas, and St. Agnes, all in Buffalo.

In addition to her 36 years in the field of education, Sister Jeanne Marie also did clerical work at St. Mary's Manor in Niagara Falls and St. Elizabeth Home in Lancaster and then was medical records clerk at St. Mary of the Angels in Williamsville before retiring to her full-time prayer ministry. She also was local minister to the sisters for of 23 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, May 24 in St. Mary of the Angels Chapel. Arrangements were made by Amigone Funeral Home.
