School Board president thankful

The students and residents of the Williamsville School District were the winners on election day May 15. The 2007-08 budget proposition passed by a 3-1 margin indicating the Williamsville community continues to value our excellent educational system.

Thank you to all the people who voted for a strong local commitment to public education. You sent a powerful message regarding the future of this district. I would especially like to thank all the 18- to 24-year-olds who voted and worked on the campaign. You recognize the need to promote and preserve the Williamsville tradition. All of you will be able to remember with pride the difference you made for this community.

A special thank you goes out to all of my supporters who are aware of my positive impact on our schools. I will continue to be an advocate for our children, our district and public education. I truly believe that one person can make a different. As Robert F. Kennedy once said, "Some men see things as they are and ask why, I dream things that never were and ask why not?"

I congratulate new board members Dawn Cerra and Carrie Kahn and thank Dr. Khalid Qazi and Carolyn Giambra for their service to our district. I look forward to working in partnership with the 2007-08 Board of Education and Superintendent Howard Smith for the benefit of all our children.
