The Amherst Central High School Academy Awards will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 at Sonoma Grille, Snyder. Eligible nominees are participants in either the fall 2006 or the spring 2007 productions. Tickets are $18 pre-sale and $25 at the door. For information, call 570-6361 or 570-8926.

Buffalo-Area Engineering Awareness for Minorities will sponsor a summer pre-college science and technology programs at the post seventh- through post 12th-grade level. Classes are four weeks long (five weeks for 11thand 12-graders), beginning July 9. For information, call 645-3066.

Emedcon in Williamsville, has awarded the 2007 Emedco Academic Excellence Awards to the following high school students: Amherst Central's Shuchen Susan Song and Andrew Wong; Sweet Home's Ryan Poley and Krista Prentice; Park School of Buffalo's Amelia Iuvino and Steven Dick; Williamsville East's Lauren E. Biddle and Richard M. Silvestri; North's Esha Dasgupta and Eric Przybyszewski; and South's Elaina Giolanda and Marc Morelli.

Cathy Sun of Williamsville East High School has won a $1,000 college scholarship for writing the best essay from New York in this year's National Peace Essay Contest, sponsored by the U.S. Institute of Peace. She is invited to join other state winners in Washington, D.C., for a program focusing on international conflict resolution and compete for national scholarship awards up to $10,000.

Kadimah School of Buffalo recently honored the May Students of the Month: eighth-grade student David Zakalik; fifth-grade pupils Justin Green and Emily Senick and fourth-grade pupil Alyssa Schwartz were honored by their teachers.

Philip Constantinou, a student at Williamsville North High School, has been awarded a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship. Chosen from among 15,000 finalists, he plans a career in medicine.

Amherst residents James Sylvis and Martha Mercantini received faculty teaching awards at the first annual Canisius College Dean's Award Ceremony. The awards recognize outstanding teaching in the School of Education and Human Services.
