'AAA' Cardinals top Yankees, 13-3

The "AAA" Cardinals' bats came alive on Thursday, May 17 with a total of 14 hits, including triples from Austin Ballard and Jack Quinlivan, to defeat the Yankees, 13-3.

The Cardinals put up six runs in the first and fourth innings. Tony Regan singled three times and scored as many runs. Joe Montalbano reached base twice and added two runs in the first and fourth innings.

M.J. Morris, Dante Merrill, Adam Merkle and August Howell combined for four runs. Peter Byrne and Andrew Boccio combined for three hits and four runs.

Yankees' leadoff hitter Matthew Keating had two hits and a run while Kyle Damon had the hit of the day, a screamer down the left field line to earn a triple. Timothy Greco had a pair of hits and a run for the Yankees.

The Cardinals were without the services of Sean Duggan, who is nursing a broken thumb.

'Major' baseball

Orioles 10, Red Sox 4

The Orioles jumped to a 9-0 lead after two innings, thanks to Andrew Pierino retiring six of seven batters faced and strong defense.

Timely hitting by Eric Ruh, Michael Spina and Airic Thornton (two hits each) paced the Oriole offense.

Spina made a perfect throw from deep left field to Ruh at home plate to cut down a runner in the first inning.

Nick Fago and Kevin Doherty (two hits each) and sound pitching by Max Kreuz helped the Red Sox close the gap to the 10-4 final.

'AA' senior

Tigers 9, Orioles 8

The Tigers squeezed out a 9-8 victory over the Orioles for their first win of the season. After a scoreless two innings highlighted by the pitching of Cam Ciesielski, who faced just seven batters, walking one and striking out six, the Tigers struck for five runs in the third. After a long double by Derek Alford, Jake Maley singled and a walk by Noah Reinhart loaded the bases. Ian Snyder singled in two runs, and walks to Kyle Blenman, Dakota Davis, and Cole Staggs brought in three more runs.

The Orioles struck back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Zaefel's single, combined with walks and a hit batsman, got the score to 5-3. The Tigers put the game away in the next inning, scoring four runs on singles by Maley and Probst with walks to Ciesielski, Alford, Sackel and Snyder.

The Tigers survived a last-inning rally by the Orioles, who scored four runs and had the bases loaded when the game ended. Maley led the Tigers with three hits, and Alford and Reinhart chimed in with long doubles.

Cubs 13, Cardinals 9

The Cubs defeated the Cardinals on Thursday, May 17.

Matthew Boccio led off the first inning with a walk. Reed Bihary followed with a base hit. Stevie Vukelic and Liam Sullivan walked before Max Marko and Cole Gleichenhaus singles. Sammy Pieri walked followed by Zeb Hare's single, which ended the inning with a 5-0 lead.

The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the first after hits by Adam Stasiewicz and Greco.

In the second, Vukelic had two RBIs after doubling and later scored on Sullivan's base hit. The Cardinals added another two runs in the second.

The Cubs added five runs in the third after hits by Hare, Boccio, Bihary and Sullivan to take a commanding 13-4 lead.

The Cardinals managed five runs in the bottom of the third but were held scoreless in the fourth when Vukelic struck out the side to give the Cubs their first win. The Cubs had started the season with two ties and a loss.

Cubs 12, Tigers 3

The Cubs came to play on Saturday, May 19 against the Tigers.

In the top of the first inning, Reed Bihary and Stevie Vukelic's singles followed Matt Boccio's leadoff walk to load the bases. Walks by Max Marco, Cole Gleichenhaus, Aubrey Rockoff and Sammy Pieri gave the Cubs a 4-0 lead.

In the second, Alex Occhioti led off with a walk, followed by base hits by Liam Sullivan and Bihary to give the Cubs a 7-0 lead.

The Tigers were held scoreless after two innings since Boccio was unhittable on the mound. He struck out six of 10 batters faced.

The Cubs added four runs in the top of the third after walks to Rockoff, Pieri, Zeb Hare and Occhioti, followed by hits from Zach Adams and Sullivan.

The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the third.

Vukelic led off the fourth with a double to deep right field. He scored after singles by Marko and Gleichenhaus.

Adams pitched the third. Bihary held the Tigers scoreless in the fourth and fifth. The game ended after Bihary fielded a grounder to the mound and threw to Sullivan at first.
