St. Benedict's softball posts victories St. Benedict's girls softball team started out the season with a 12-5 win against St. Mary's of Swormville. All 12 players contributed and played a good game. Kristy Luce and Shannon Okonczak combined for 14 strikeouts and three hits. Each also played third base. Okonczak was on base three times and scored twice. While playing third, she ran to make a nice catch on a fly ball. Luce was also on base three times, and had a hit, an RBI, scored two runs and fielded a ball, throwing a girl out at first. First baseman Mary O'Rourke had a nice hit and made it to base three times. She caught a fly ball and fielded a ball for an out. Shannon DesRosiers had a nice at-bat and made it safely to base and scored a run while Carrie Deck had a hit and also scored a run. Gina Maisano and Jennifer Krajnick both did a great job catching and playing center field. Maisano was on base three times and scored two runs. While at bat, Krajnick had an awesome hit that scored two RBIs in the first inning and another RBI later in the game along with scoring a run. While at catcher, Krajnick threw a girl out who was attempting to steal second base. MC Duggan had a good game at the plate, getting on base all five times she was up. She had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run. Jamie Schuh played hard while at second base. She had a nice at-bat and hit up the middle at the pitcher. Kyra Sweeny also had a good day at the plate and was on base three times. Unfortunately, Sweeney was stranded on base each time and was not able to score. Left fielder Nina Anders made a nice attempt to catch a fly ball and was able to keep a runner from taking more than one base. Anders had two hits, two RBIs and scored one run. Second baseman Claire Wincott got to base and scored a run. Wincott made a nice play at second, throwing the batter out at first to end the game. Liz Feeley was on the bench will most likely be out for the season with a broken wrist. St. Benedict's 5, Christ the King 2 St. Benedict's was victorious in a close game with Christ the King. Second baseman Claire Wincott had a beautiful hit, fielded three balls and was able to throw all three runners out at first base. Shannon Okonczak was on base three times with two great hits and an RBI. Left fielder Nina Anders and shortstop Kyra Sweeney both made it to base. Sweeney made a terrific stop on a hard hit ball and threw to first for the out. Catcher Gina Maisano caught a foul tip and a great day at the plate with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Mary O'Rourke had a busy day at first base and had two nice hits and scored twice. Maggie Boyle made it to base on a nice hit to third and was ready defensively in the field as was Jamie Schuh. MC Duggan came through again with two hits and two RBIs. Just as Christ the King appeared to be coming back in the last inning with two runners on base, pitcher Kristy Luce fielded the ball and threw it to catcher Jen Krajnick who tagged the runner as she got to the plate. Luce struck out 12 batters and at the plate had a hit and scored a run. |
