Prizel's heroics lift Mel Ott 'AAA' Cardinals to one-run win Brock Prizel scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Cardinals a narrow 7-6 win over the Mets on Saturday, May 19. The Mets scored two quick runs in the top of the first inning, but the Cardinals scored three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead back. Noah DiPasquale got things going with a hard-hit triple that went to the fence. The Mets regained the lead with a pair of runs in the second, and Patrick Forrestel struck out five over three innings to keep the Mets in front. The Cardinals wouldn't quit and chipped away with two runs in the third and tied the game in the fifth, setting the stage for Prizel's heroics in the final inning. Prizel, the leadoff hitter in the inning, laid down a beautiful bunt and ended up on third because of a throwing error. DiPasquale was at the plate when Prizel ended the game, scoring on a passed ball. Evan Wysocki had a pair of singles, and Taylor Sutherland and Andrew White both drove in two runs to lead the Cards. Sam Cimato struck out five over two innings. John Vandermark and David Christopher both had a pair of hits to lead the Mets' offense. Reds 9, Cardinals 8 The Reds' Tommy Brummer struck out the side in the first inning, and Bryce Donovan struck out the side in the final inning to close out a 9-8 victory over the Cardinals in Mel Ott AAA" action on Wednesday, May 16. The Cardinals struck early with three runs in the second inning on RBIs by Sam Cimato, Taylor Sutherland and Trevor Wilson but could not hold the lead as the Reds exploded for seven runs in the third. The big hits for the Reds in the inning were a monster triple by Nick Steger and RBI singles by Gavin Borkowski and Joe Lepertine. The Cardinals managed to tie the score with a five-run fifth inning, sparked by run-scoring singles from Ryan Burns and Andrew White. Cimato capped things off with a shot that hit the fence on one hop for a three-run triple. Dylan Boone scored the eventual game winner on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, leading to Donovan's nearly perfect finish. 'AA' baseball Reds 7, Red Sox 6 The Red Sox came out swinging in the first inning, scoring six runs on seven hits. Chris Kuchta had a big double in the first and Ryan Plewinski had two hits in the game. Trailing 6-2 heading into the sixth, the Reds scored five runs to take the lead. Peter Klein had two hits and Kenny Basinski pitched two shutout innings. Ryan Scero pitched three shutout innings and had the key hit to win the game. 'A' baseball Red Sox 14, A's 3 The Red Sox defeated the A's behind the hitting of Andre Torrico (three hits), Bam Ruggiero (two hits) and Patrick Gourlay (two hits). Joseph Torrillo also chipped in with a base hit and some excellent defensive plays for the Red Sox. Torrico and Jacob Simmons each pitched two strong innings for the Red Sox. Reds 9, Yankees 3 Chase Ford batted 2 for 2 at the plate and Mitchell Thurston and Ian Cherico also contributed with hits to carry the Reds to a win. Patrick Boyle and Ryan Huard crossed the plate twice. Curtis Miller, Ford, Thurston, Patrick Boyle and John Gray each achieved a 100 percent on-base percentage. Ford also displayed outstanding fielding as he caught a nicely hit ball to right field by Devon Stecher of the Yankees. Overall strong pitching by Ford, Cherico and Will Gaulin held off the strong Yankee hitters. 'Minor' Softball Heat 6, Force 4 Pitcher Victoria Rigler earned the save by striking out the final three batters as the Heat held off the surging Force. Facing a dramatic bases-loaded situation with no outs, Rigler was at her finest with the pressure on. Madison Badgley and Isabella Calloway each had their first hits of the year, contributing to the Heat offense. |
