Kaleida receives $1 million nursing scholarship endowment

Kaleida Health has created a $1 million nursing education scholarship endowment aimed at job training for students and retention of current nurses.

The unprecedented investment will provide annual scholarships to men and women seeking to become nurses, as well as current nurses who want to advance their careers through additional education or certification.

"Health care is a growing industry in Western New York," said James R. Kaskie, president and CEO of Kaleida Health. "As our population continues to age, they face significant health challenges. We must continue to find new ways to attract students and prospective employees to this rewarding profession."

The endowment was made possible in part by a bequest from Janet Wattles, in memory of her mother Blanche. Kaleida Health and the Millard Fillmore Nursing Alumni Association also are donors.
