Checkpoint produces 79 tickets In early May, the Amherst Police Traffic Unit conducted a safety checkpoint in the Bailey Avenue area of Eggertsville. The State Police assisted, providing an automatic license plate reader. The device scans license plates and alerts the officer if a particular plate is suspended or the owner of that vehicle has a suspended license. The checkpoint produced 79 traffic tickets, and one warrant arrest was made. The following tickets were issued: 28 for overdue inspections, 12 for not wearing a seat belt, 11 for speeding, six for suspended vehicle registration and three for driving with a suspended license. Also: three for no insurance, five for unsafe tires, two for driving while on a cell phone, two for no side mirror, three for the vehicle not being registered, one for switched plates, one for driving out of class, one for driving with no license and one for unsafe backing. The checkpoint was set up on May 3. |
