Priorities need to be reexamined

Despite the Department of Public Works "slowdown," which has severely crippled the opening of the village parks, Mayor Mary Lowther and Brian Kulpa, under the guise of the Village Parks Committee, nevertheless made a rare off-site presentation to the Village Square Apartments promising tax dollars to the private condominium complex.

The purpose of this rare, off-site meeting is transparent. The mayor and her "Vision Party" running mate, Brian Kulpa are attempting to persuade those voters by making false promises. Perhaps even more egregious is that they are making these promises at the expense of the entire village parks system.

With the opening of the village parks being delayed, it is a shame that Mayor Lowther, as liaison to the Parks Committee, did not take her responsibilities more seriously. One need only walk through the village parks to understand the level of neglect that has taken place.

The mayor and Village Parks Committee should have been preparing for opening day and not spending time making false promises for personal gain. I can only hope the village truly grasps the mayor's intentions - that is - her quest for re-election is far more important than the quality of life of the villagers. Perhaps on June 19, we can send her a message that in fact the opposite is true.
