Waterford Village Bank seeks donations for troops In recognition of National Military Appreciation Month, Waterford Village Bank will be collecting items to "Fill the Hummer for Our Heroes." Donations will be sent to New York-based military units serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. A Hummer H1, provided by Hummer of Buffalo, will be parked outside the bank at 8411 Main St., near Arondale Drive, Clarence, and donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, May 23-25, and Tuesday, May 29. "The 'Fill the Hummer for Our Heroes' campaign is an opportunity to give back to the men and women who put their lives on the line for this great country," said Kathleen K. Flemming, president and CEO of Waterford Village Bank. "Our entire staff is working hard to make this a success, and we feel it's the least we can do to support our soldiers serving overseas." Donations, which can be dropped off during banking hours, could include brown or green T-shirts, toiletry items, powdered sports drinks, DVDs, sunblock, AA batteries and letters of support. A complete listing of items that are allowed for donation is available at the bank. Waterford Village Bank also is participating in the Williamsville Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28, starting at 2 p.m. Flemming and her staff will honor Chester Ellis, a decorated war hero and Waterford Village Bank board member, to help raise awareness and support for servicemen and women stationed overseas. Ellis, a Korean and World War II veteran, is a recipient of the Korean War Service Medal. |
