U12 Revolution outdoor soccer rolls along

In soccer, great defense doesn't get noticed as much as great offense but the Amherst Revolution U-12 Girls Soccer Club thinks differently.

On Tuesday, May 8, the Revolution took to the field against a well-seasoned U-13 Akron team and Amherst showed what great defense could do. The Revolution goalkeeping tandem of Francesca Carra and Cathryn Mohan made several spectacular saves in helping the Revolution win 3-1.

Akron scored its only goal with about five minutes remaining in the game. The victory gives the Revolution a 2-0 record.

Defensive standout Shannon Doherty patrolled the back line well, keeping the Akron forwards at bay for most of the night.

Other key members of the Revolution effort were Hannah Dreger, Nikka Berrafato, Alyssa Cartwright, Annie Garcia, Courtney Kramer, Morgaine Houston, Kaitlyn Walsh, Alicia Girard, Kaitlyn Neese, Sara Eichhorn, Katie Cohen, Margaux Gill, Angela Sobotka and Carissima Cutrona.

The Revolution scored early in the game on a wonderful run by Courtney Kramer down the right side of the field. Kramer let go a powerful right foot blast that was aimed at the left post, leaving the Akron goalkeeper grasping only air as the ball whizzed by her. Margaux Gill scored the next Revolution goal on a beautiful left-footed boot. Closing out the first half scoring was Mohan, who received a perfect crossing pass from Sobotka.
