South modified lacrosse improves record

Williamsville South's modified girls lacrosse team improved its record to 6-4 with victories over Amherst and Williamsville East.

On Tuesday, May 8, South lost to Lancaster 10-6. Seventh grader Kara Pomeroy put the Lady Billies up 1-0 at 1:15 into the game. Taylor Stone scored another for South to make the score 5-2 at halftime.

South coach Mary Ferenczy challenged the team at halftime and 40 seconds into the second half, Alison Ferenczy went to goal. Stone followed at 3:19 and Haley Rubino tallied at 10:45.

South tied the game but after that it was all Lancaster. Stone scored a final goal for a hat trick. Joslin Downey made 17 saves in net for South.

On Thursday, May 10, South defeated Amherst, 11-6. Stone scored a career-high five goals. Pomeroy started the scoring at 10:17. Jessica Utech scored five minutes later. Alison Ferenczy located Shannon Martin for another Lady Billie goal. Allison Brace went the full field to score for South. Kyra Kyder and Callie Bridge scored the final two goals for South. Allison Brace was South's defensive player of the game.

On Saturday, May 12, South took a 6-0 lead at halftime over Williamsville East and won 8-6. Goals were scored by Bridge, Shannon Keilich, Haley Rubino, Kevinah Dargan and two by Martin. Ali Ferenczy and Pomeroy had assists on the goals.

Williamsville East tied the game in the second half by 16:32 but Stone scored twice after that for the South victory. Melissa Suszynski had an assist one of Stone's goals.

Francesca Cutrona played aggressive defense for South.
