Weiss earns tennis honors

Steve Weiss of Getzville was named to the All-Mountain Valley Conference men's tennis team.

Weiss dominated at first singles for State University of New York at Cobleskill, posting a 4-0 mark and finished 7-1 overall. During his career, Weiss posted an 8-0 record versus Mountain Valley Conference opponents. Weiss became the program's first regional champion during his freshman year, capturing the 2006 National Junior Conference Athletic Association Region III first singles championship and advancing to the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament where he lost in the opening round. This season, he finished as the Region III runner-up at first singles.

Cobleskill finished 5-3 and placed second in the conference with a 3-1 record. The program also made its second straight appearance at the NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament, finishing third overall, the best finish for the Fighting Tigers at the event in over a decade.
