East improves record

Williamsville East improved to 13-4 overall and 8-3 in ECIC Division II after games played last week.

The Flames unleashed a 12-hit attack in support of Zach Miller as East rolled to an 11-0 shutout of Lake Shore on Tuesday, May 8.

Mike Zeoli (.357) scored three times and chipped in a single and triple. Nick Kanutsu (.415) had two hits and two RBIs. Mike Ferguson (.386) knocked in four runs with a pair of singles. Chris Schiumo singled, tripled and scored twice.

Miller took care of the pitching end of it, throwing just 80 pitches. Fifty-five were strikes. He scattered five harmless hits and improved to 5-0. He sports a 1.47 ERA and opponents are hitting .161.

"His control and command of pitches has been superb," said East coach Jerry Gasz.

East (10-4, 7-3) picked up their tenth win of the year, defeating John F. Kennedy, 7-5, on Wednesday, May 9.

The Flames had 13 hits. Kanutsu had two singles and a double, and knocked in two runs. Mike Zeoli had a pair of singles for two RBIs and Eric Charlton chipped in with two hits as did outfielder Nick Weigel.

Justin Andreozzi got credit for the win. Kanutsu earned the save.

East also defeated Williamsville South, 5-4, on Friday, May 11 to win the ECIC Division II title (see South baseball story).

East won non-league games against Charlotte Valley, 19-2, and Oneonta, 11-3, on Saturday, May 12.

The Flames banged out 16 hits against Charlotte Valley. Kanutsu had three hits, scored three times and had two RBIs. Gary Styn chipped in three hits and scored three times. Ferguson had two hits for five RBIs and Charlton homered and singled for five RBIs.

Dominic Missana, who relieved Andreozzi after the first inning, pitched two-hit shut out ball to gain his first win of the season.

The Flames never trailed Oneonta and went ahead in the second inning after Mark Guenther hit a monstrous out-of-the-park home run. Guenther went 4 for 5 as East had 16 hits.

Zeoli also had four hits and Ferguson hit a single and double for five RBIs.

Junior right-hander Jordan Karnath scattered six hits to pick up the win.
