Amherst girls outdoor track up to Starpoint Team Challenge Amherst Central's girls outdoor track team placed first against 25 other schools at the Starpoint Team Challenge held on Saturday, May 12 at Starpoint High School. The Lady Tigers scored 58 points. "They should be extremely proud of the way they performed and represented Amherst," said Amherst coach Dan Tyron. Allison Rogers and Nasya Watson won the 200-meters and set a new meet record with a time of 53.45. The duo also won the 100 in 26.07. Brenna Symoniak and Celia Alterio won the 3,000 in 22:49 and took second in the 1,500 in 10:08. The team's relays also excelled. The 4x800 team of Arielle Januszkiewicz, Alterio, Symoniak and Sarah Lister came in second in 10:19.7 as did the 4x100 quartet of Stephine Woods, Watson, Ariella Korn and Rogers in 52.23. Mikaela Maddock and Lister combined for fourth in the 400 in 1:30. Amherst lost 74-67 against Pioneer on Tuesday, May 8. Tyron said his team put forth an outstanding effort and competed right down to the last event. A major highlight was the 4x100 relay of Woods, Watson, Korn and Rogers, who broke their previous best record and again broke the school record in a time of 52.0. Amherst Central boys The Tigers finished in fourth place out of 27 teams at the Starpoint Team Challenge. Viron Hale (16.3) and DeShawn Hough (16.0) combined to win the 110-meter high hurdles. Willie Jones (6-4) and Hale (5-4) joined forces to win the high jump. Jones (11.6) and Bert Smith (11.5) came in second in the 100 meters. Hough, Smith, Alex Dennis, and Jones placed third in the 400 relay in 45.5. Hale (38-10) and David Robinson (38-6) finished fifth in the triple jump. Smith (23.8) and Dennis (24.4) were sixth in the 600. |
