East finishes third in league Williamsville East's girls lacrosse team finished 6-4 in ECIC Division III after losing to Amherst (see Amherst article) and East Aurora, 11-9, and defeating Eden, 10-3. East Aurora came out strong and took a 4-0 lead before East's Emily Dehlinger scored. About 10 minutes into the game, East's starting goalie, Courtney Vitello, went down with a knee injury that happened off a free position shot taken by East Aurora's Samantha Stanly. Vitello will be out for at least a week. The injury forced back-up goalie Ashley Slisz into the game. The Lady Flames used the injury break to regroup and gain momentum once the game restarted, quickly scoring three goals to bring East within two at halftime. The Lady Flames were unable to get closer than two goals though as East Aurora started running a stall early in the second half. Emily Williams led East with five goals. Dehlinger (goal, two assists), Lauren Latona (goal, assist), Aleece Burgio, Brittani Hargis (goal each) and Sarah DiPofi(two assists) also recorded points for the Lady Flames. Slisz played great against Eden, stopping over 70 percent of her shots on goal. DiPofiand Dehlinger each had two goals and two assists, Williams scored three times, Latona picked up a goal and assist, and Hargis scored once. Claire Schiedemann scored her first varsity goal. East's final regular-season game was against Williamsville North on Tuesday, May 15, but results were unavailable before The Bee went to press. Williams leads all East scorers with 45 goals and nine assists. Hargis has 30 goals and 12 assists. Dehlinger (14 goals, 15 assists), Latona (12 goals, 11 assists), DiPofi(12 goals, 12 assists), Burgio (five goals, four assists), Alina Swierski (four goals, four assists), Erika Flashner (four goals, three assists), Lauren Hall (two goals, five assists), Schiedemann (goal, two assists), Erica Sizemore (goal, two assists), Alyssa Drozynski (three assists), Jenny Berger (two assists), Lauren Lapoint (two assists) and Casey Lanighan (assist) have also recorded points this season. |
