Sharks softball remain unbeaten in league play Sacred Heart softball improved to 6-0 in the Monsignor Martin Association and 7-1 overall with wins last week over Nichols, 10-1, and O'Hara, 7-0, on Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11, respectively and an 11-2 win over Holy Angels on Monday, May 14. Pam Formosa tossed a four-hitter and struck out eight to record the win over Nichols. Lindsay Macaluso hit 3 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs to pace the offense. Erica Comisso pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts versus O'Hara. Sacred Heart scored a run in the first (Comisso on Formosa single) and fourth (Brieanna Brink tripled, scored on Allison Gravelle single). The Sharks added two runs in the fifth (Alison Pyszczynski singled, scored on Comisso single; Brink singled, scored on Formosa single) and another two in the sixth (Katie Salisbury tripled, scored on Jenn Martin single; Martin scored on Macaluso single). Formosa had three hits and two RBIs. Comisso followed the O'Hara game with a 15 strikeout, six-hit performance against Holy Angels. Doubles by Formoso and Martin scored Caitlin Schenck and Formoso and a two-run single by Macaluso scored Salisbury and Martin in a five-run Shark fifth. In the fifth, Pyszczynski tripled, Comisso walked and Schenck doubled home both. Schenck scored on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Pyszczynski singled home Formoso and scored on a wild pitch. Pyszczynski finished with three hits and two RBIs. Schenck had two hits and three RBIs. Formoso recorded two hits and two RBIs. Sacred Heart plays at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16 at Amherst and hosts Mt. St. Mary's at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 at the Pepsi Center. Sacred Heart plays Alden, Niagara Catholic and Nardin next week. |
