Juvenile with gun suspected of gang connection

Amherst Police Officer Tracy Martin was on patrol near 100 Princeton Ave. on May 5 when she said she noticed a suspicious teen.

She said the male was walking "strangely" with his hands in his pockets. Martin stopped him and noted he appeared nervous.

Upon investigating, the officer determined the teen, a 15-year-old Amherst resident, had a 30-caliber, sawed-off rifle in his pants.

He will face unlawful possession of a weapon charges as a juvenile (younger than 16) in Amherst Family Court. He also faces stolen property charges.

Police reported the clothing the teen was wearing affiliated him with a gang from Buffalo.
