Grelick named Parks Foundation chair

Susan J. Grelick, former Amherst supervisor, has been appointed chairwoman of the Amherst Conservation, Recreation and Parks Foundation.

The foundation is dedicated to preserving green space and wildlife habitats and supporting enhancements to improve Amherst's parks and recreational facilities.

The nonprofit foundation is not an entity of the town government and maintains its independence from the political process.

"It's appropriate that Susan be appointed the chairperson because she formed the foundation when she was town supervisor, and she brings fresh approaches to working the foundation's mission," Peter Warn, acting chairman of the foundation, said. "Her extensive knowledge of the town and the governmental process will be valuable in designing and carrying through on projects to enhance the 50-plus parks in the town."

In 2000, Grelick founded the Amherst Land Fund Task Force, which became the Amherst Conservation, Recreation and Parks Foundation.

"Some of my goals for this coming year include: establishing closer ties with other organizations with similar interests and with the community to encourage volunteer participation; (and) establishing advocacy groups to promote, support and fundraise for the parks and programs," she said.
