Revolution U-12 open outdoor season with shutout victory

The Amherst Revolution U-12 girls soccer club opened the outdoor portion of the year defeating the Tritown Storm, 7-0, on Tuesday, May 1.

The Revolution is playing in the U-13 girls division of the Western New York girl's soccer league, making the outcome of the opener even more surprising.

Over the weekend the Revolution placed second in the Akron Kick-it-First Tournament finishing with a 3-1 record.

In the game against Tritown, the Revolution, led by Cathryn Mohan, Hannah Dreger, Nikka Berrafato, Alyssa Cartwright, Annie Garcia, Courtney Kramer, Morgaine Houston, Kaitlyn Walsh and Shannon Doherty showed off their outstanding ball skills making numerous passing, dribbling and defensive plays.

The Revolution received excellent goalkeeping from both keepers, Francesca Carra and Christine Murphy. Each made spectacular saves early in each half keeping the Tritown team off the scoreboard.

Kaitlyn Neese opened the scoring, receiving a pretty pass from Carissima Cutrona. Sara Eichhorn made a fabulous defensive play stealing the ball and scoring unassisted. Katie Cohen scored with the assist going to Angela Sobotka, who made a beautiful crossing pass.

In the second half, Margaux Gill and Cutrona each netted two goals making the finial 7-0. Gaining assists on the second half goals were Alicia Girard, Francesca Carra and Kaitlyn Neese.

In the Akron Kick-It-First Tournament this past weekend, the Revolution showed a tremendous team effort defeating three outstanding Rochester based teams before suffering its only defeat, 2-1, in the championship game on Sunday afternoon, May 6.
