Connie Mack 16U Firehawks split doubleheader

The Connie Mack 16U Firehawks split a doubleheader on Sunday, May 6 with the 16U New Era Diamond Girls.

Firehawks 2, Diamond Girls 0

Jessica Banning allowed four hits, threw eight strikeouts, fielded one pop fly and threw three runners out at first base. She also walked one batter and scored a run.

Many Firehawks excelled at the plate. Courtney Smith singled and on defense, caught three balls for outs at first base. Kaitlyn Mergler had a single, RBI and caught three balls for outs at first. Mariah Mergler singled and caught a pop fly at second. Emily Thompson singled three times and at shortstop, fielded one out to first.

Third baseman Abby DeFrancis fielded three balls to first for outs. Kara Stein had a single, RBI and caught two fly balls at third for outs.

Catcher Jordan Dudish walked and caught a pop-up foul ball for an out and threw out a runner off the bag at first. Kristy Luce (two walks, run scored) and Nicole Okonczak (single, walk) also contributed on offense.

Abby DeFrancis threw five strikeouts, allowed six hits, fielded one pop fly and threw out a runner at first base. She singled at the plate.

Kaitlyn Mergler singled and caught three balls for outs at first.

Courtney Smith singled and at first base, caught two pop flies, fielded a ground ball, and caught four fielded balls for outs.

Mariah Mergler singled and walked twice and at second, covered first on a bunt for an out. Shortstop Emily Thompson doubled and fielded five outs.

Kara Stein fielded three balls to first for outs. Rachel Schepart singled and caught a fly ball in center for an out. Nicole Okonczak caught a fly ball in left field. Ellen Truty fielded a ball in right field to second for an out and had a sacrifice bunt at the plate.
