East baseball splits final games of week

Williamsville East (8-4, 6-3) responded from a 10-3 loss against Hamburg on Friday, May 4 with a 9-4 victory over West Seneca East on Saturday, May 5.

The Flames banged out 15 hits against West Seneca East. Gary Styn, hitting .500, led the hit parade with a double and two singles. Mike Zeoli (.357) singled and doubled for two RBIs. Nick Kanutsu (.405) had a single and triple, and Eric Charlton (.358), Mark Guenther (.275) and Chris Schiumo (.273) all had two hits.

Guenther, a junior right-hander, pitched a complete game, spacing out eight hits and striking out six for his second win of the season.

East made it easy for Hamburg with 14 fly outs and four strikeouts, putting no pressure on the Bulldog defense.

The Flames managed only six hits. Kanutsu, Styn and Justin Andreozzi pitched for East. Andreozzi shined, throwing three scoreless innings and yielding no hits.

East has games scheduled with John F. Kennedy and Williamsville South on Wednesday, May 9 and Friday, May 11 before playing at Charlotte Valley and Oneonta on Saturday, May 12.
