Since a 5-0 loss to Orchard Park in their opener, Williamsville North's boys tennis team can't be stopped. The Spartans are 6-1 in ECIC Division I and 7-1 overall.

In league matches, North has beaten Frontier twice, 3-2, 3-2, Jamestown and West Seneca West, by 5-0 scores, and Lancaster, 4-0. They've also beaten Williamsville South, 4-1, in non-league action.

One of the big reasons for the team's success is the play of its youth.

Seventh grader Tony Miller is 5-2 in his first seven matches at first singles and has already avenged a 2-6, 0-6 loss to Frontier's Ramsey Kassen by winning 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.

"Some of the other players are bigger and more athletic than him so he can't match up with some of their power yet," said North coach Mike Vendetti. "That's the biggest area he is getting used to."

Another youngster in the starting lineup, eighth grader Alex Bronsky, has also showed promise with a 5-2 record.

"He lost his first match but has improved every match since," said Vendetti.

North's doubles teams have played strong with neither team dropping a set since OP.

Jack Jagodzinski and Julian Rotschild is 6-1 at first doubles as is Mike Beato and Joe Elton at second doubles.

North closes out the regular season with with two matches against first-place Clarence and a rematch with Orchard Park.
