Former Town Recreation Department employee celebrates 100th birthday Margaret M. Gibney of Amherst will celebrate her 100th birthday on Mother's Day. She is a former Amherst Planning Board member and is retired from the Recreation Department. Gibney was born to George and Katherine Adrian in Buffalo on May 13, 1907, and was one of eight children. She graduated from Most Holy Redeemer Elementary School and Mary Immaculate Academy. She went on to study engineering at the University at Buffalo. In 1929 she married Rudolph M. Lutz. He died in 1956 while responding to a fire with the Snyder Fire Company. In 1971, she married Dr. James Gibney, a retired Army doctor. Mr. Gibney died in 1989. For much of her life Gibney has enjoyed taking arts and crafts classes. She was proficient in sewing, knitting, leather work, painting, tin work and ceramics. She also enjoys cooking, gardening and traveling. Gibney currently resides at Tennyson Court Senior Care. Her family will celebrate Gibney's birthday with a family party on Sunday, May 13 at her residence. |
