Island Park named Great Strides Walk site

The Western New York Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has announced the 2007 kickoff of Great Strides: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis.

Seven Great Strides walks will be held in Western New York to raise money for research, education and care programs.

One of the seven walks will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 20 in Island Park, 5583 Main St., Williamsville. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.

This is the 19th year Great Strides has been held, working toward the goal of raising $36 million nationwide through 550 walks being held from March to June.

The Williamsville Great Strides walk coincides with National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month.

"Every walker who joins Great Strides helps us save lives," said Kelly Kopra, executive director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's WNY chapter.

"Thanks to Great Strides, we are making tremendous progress in fighting this disease, and we are grateful for our volunteers and sponsors who are a crucial part of this effort," she said.
