Smith applauds Police Department On behalf of the Board of Education, the staff and students of the Williamsville Central School District, I would like to thank the Amherst Police Department, under the leadership of Chief John Moslow, Assistant Chief John Askey, and Detective Sgt. Michael Torrillo, for their extraordinary efforts on behalf of our community and, in particular, our youth. Recently, we experienced two incidents involving threatening notes that interrupted the regular school day at two of our high schools. The response from the police was immediate. They conducted a thorough investigation, using specially trained dogs supplied by other law enforcement agencies, to effect meticulous searches of the buildings before students and staff were allowed to return to the schools. While the threats proved to be without merit, it is important to know that all threats are taken seriously and all rumors are investigated thoroughly. Those found to be responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as well as within the state Education Department disciplinary regulations. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority and we will continue to collaborate with the Amherst police to ensure that our school communities are safe for learning. As I have said before, the value and power of a strong, collaborative working relationship with the Amherst Police Department results in a safer, more secure school environment for our children. We are fortunate to have these dedicated men and women serving our community. Thank you, Chief Moslow, for your leadership and sincere caring for our students. Superintendent Howard S.
