'Noodles'
A comic view of a dysfunctional family trying to cope in the modern age will be on stage when the world premiere production of "Noodles" is at the Ghostlight Theatre beginning Thursday, May 10.
"Noodles" by playwright L. Don Swartz could easily be mistaken as Neil Simon at his jokester best, with a heartwarming moral that seems to pervade in much of Swartz's work. By the end of the play, audiences may re-think just who among their families are crazy and who are sane.
"Normal people just don't interest me," said Swartz, and the Boodle family is anything but normal.
Homeowners Boo and Stu Boodle set the stage for the rest of the family. Boo is June Cleaver at her homiest, while hubby Stu is no straight, practical Ward - he's been inhaling dry-cleaning fumes for 30 years and has the empty-headed comic cluelessness to prove it. Then there's Grandpa Boodle who runs a cat house, the crazy kids Lulu, Luke, Jack, and other amusing characters.

Hollywood sleaze
The Adam Mickiewicz Dramatic Circle is presenting David Rabe's riveting drama "Hurlyburly," May 9-12.
The play took New York by storm in a production directed by Mike Nichols and starring William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, Judith Ivey, Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel and Jerry Stiller.
"Hurlyburly" features a rat pack of low to mid-level Hollywood sleazoids - actors, casting directors and producers.
Characters are nose-deep in the decadent, perverted, cocaine laden culture that is Hollywood, pursuing their sex-crazed, dope-ridden vision of the American Dream.
Director Chris Standart's cast features David Autovino, Michael Votta, Andy Moss, Peter Jaskowiak, Kara McKenney, Linda Stein and Kelly Jakiel.
A preview/actor's benefit is at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9. The production opens at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, and runs at 2 and 8 p.m. through Saturday, May 12 at the Adam Mickiewicz Dramatic Circle, 612 Fillmore Ave., Buffalo.
Tickets are $10 and $15. For more information, call 553-0073.
