East beats league foes, improves to 3-1 in ECIC II

Williamsville East defeated West Seneca East, 4-2, on Monday, April 30, improving the Flames to 3-1 in ECIC Division II and 5-2 overall.

Mike Ferguson, who is hitting .435 on the year, drilled a single that scored Mike Zeoli and Nick Kanutsu in the fourth inning to knot the score at 2-2.

East plated two more runs in the fifth on consecutive hits by Eric Charlton, Gary Styn, Zeoli and Kanutsu to put East up 4-2.

Senior right-handed pitcher Mark Guenther spaced four hits and struck out nine and junior right-hander Josh DiMarco worked the final two innings for the save, striking out three and pitching scoreless ball. It was Guenther's first win of the year.

Zach Miller was the key to East 6-3 road win over Hamburg on Tuesday, April 24. Miller threw 94 pitches, 72 for strikes, and kept the Bulldogs off balance with an assortment of pitches.

Two of Hamburg's three runs were unearned. The only mistake Miller made was a pitch that was up in the strike zone that led to a solo home run. He finished the day scattering five hits. His pitching performance moves his record to 3-0 with a 1.79 ERA. Opponents are hitting .150 against him. Miller also had two hits to raise his average to .444.

Zeoli (.350), Ferguson and Charlton all had two hits each to pace the Flames' eight-hit attack.
