Boys and Girls Club to expand
'Annie's Place' to offer rec room for area teens
by MATT CHANDLER Reporter

The public is invited to the former Warren G. Harding Elementary School in Tonawanda at 6 p.m. on Wednesday May 9, to help the Boys and Girls Club kick off construction of its teen center, Annie's Place which is being built within the Center, at 54 Riverdale Ave.

According to Christine Hausrath, a member of the club's Board of Directors and founder of Annie's Place, the group has needed a site for teens to get community support.

"Our program is geared toward the younger kids, but we really didn't offer much for teens," she said.

That will change with the opening of Annie's Place in the club, 54 Riverdale Ave. Teens will be able to get homework assistance, computer support, and recreation, all in a safe, monitored environment.

Hausrath said they hope to include pool tables, games, and other activities geared to teens.

The purpose of the May 9th event, according to Hausrath, is to show off to the public what the club is doing in the community, and hopefully build awareness of the club.

"The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Northtowns serves 5,000 kids" Hausrath said.

"We want to take this opportunity to make the community aware of what we have to offer the kids," she said.

The "Under Construction Party" is open to the public. For more information or to make a donation to the Boys and Girls Club or Annie's Place call Hausrath at 834-3500.
