Level 8 Stumpf gymnasts excel at NYS championships The Level 8 girls from Stumpf's Gymnastics Center competed in the New York State Gymnastics Championships held April 14-15 in Rochester. Twelve-year-old Mary Hamilton of Lancaster led the team, scoring a 36.725 all-around and placing seventh in the state. Hamilton also excelled on uneven bars (9.675), where she placed fourth, sixth on vault (9.10) and 11th on floor exercise (9.45). Akron's Emma Lasker also had a strong meet, earning a 36.00 all-around and placing 12th. A strong vault that earned a 9.00 and placed eighth in the state highlighted Lasker's performance. Teammate Rachel Utech of Williamsville earned a solid 35.500 all-around and placed 24th in the state. Utech was also in the top 25 on vault, uneven bars and balance beam. Additionally, Getzville's Rachel Kistner earned a 9.275 on floor and placed 24th, and Colden's Audrey Mulhisen earned an 8.90 on uneven bars that placed 25th. Alex Sada and Chelsea Recor each performed very well in the 14-year-old age group. Depew's Sada earned a 35.825 and placed sixth, and Lancaster's Recor earned a 35.675 for ninth. Most impressively, Sada's solid beam routine earned a 9.30 and placed fourth, and Recor's strong vault earned an 8.85 and was awarded a second-place medal. Hamilton and Lasker qualified to the Level 8 Regional Championships in Providence, R.I., on May 5-6. |
