Revolution short circuits Lightning The Amherst Revolution's U-12 indoor girls soccer team got a close call on Saturday, April 21 at the Epic Center. Playing against a spirited Lockport Lightning team, the undefeated Revolution squeaked out a 1-0 victory. The win allows the Revolution to play for the Epic Center U-12 girls championship. The Revolution, known for its patented passing game, was bottled up in its own end for most of the first half. Goaltender Christine Murphy was particularly sharp in net, not allowing a goal, while Francesca Carra kept the shut out going in the second half. Lockport played a smothering defense as they kept the high scoring Revolution off the board in the first half. It was the first time all year the Revolution did not score a first half goal. In the second half, the Revolution came out rolling as they began showing the passing and playmaking skills they are known for. Nika Berrafato, Carissima Cutrona, Morgaine Huston, Sarah Eichhorn, Kaitlin Walsh, Hannah Dreger, Alyssa Cartwright, Kaitlyn Neese, Cathryn Mohan, Angela Sobotka, Annie Garcia and Alicia Girard threw everything they could at the Lockport goalie but couldn't break the scoreless tie. Finally with only five minutes remaining, Girard's left-footed boot from 25-feet away made it past the goaltender and kicked the Revolution into next week's championship game. |
